Only one word comes to mind. Beautiful. The Paperback is beautiful. Gorgeous. Call it whatever you want. The story, plot you will have to decide. This is one of those book where the story will sit well with somebody whereas somebody will hates it guts. For me I fucking love it. I have always been a fan of triangle love or in this case more, I am not sure at this point. I love it when there is unexpected betrayal, plot twist. This book just blew my mind away.In a world where the society is divided: Silver or Red.Think Silver as the mutants from X-Men and Red as the common people. Whereas in X-Men, the mutants where treated as the plague, here in Red Queen they are Royalty meaning practically they are gods. And the Red who are the commoners, people with no powers are well in short live there lives under the oppression of the Silver. Apparently Silvers are called Silvers because of the color of their blood. And Red defacto flow red blood.
Mare Barrow, the MC is a typical seventeen year old Red girl who is a petty thief who is trying very hard to provide for her family in however way possible until she too is conscripted for the Kings army just like her three older brothers to fight a war which doesn't look like is going to end anytime soon. A sudden meeting with a boy near a shady inn, she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. This should have been her salvation for her and her family but as destiny would have it, it didn't turn out that way. Mare, a red, turns out has a deadly power of her own which threatens to destroy the power of balance. The Silver King and Queen fearful of the truth, hide her in plain view, declaring her a long lost silver princess, disguising her like a Silver, engaged to a Prince. But even Mare, now a princess, among the silvers is helping the Red Guard, a militant resistance group who are trying to dethrone the Silvers from power. This is a world of betrayal and lies. Two Princes after one heart, Mare. There is deceit, betrayal, unexpected plot twist. And some seriously dangerous twisted characters. And I can't tell you the whole plot, now can I. Where will be the fun in that.
Prince Maven! MAVEN!! MAVEN!! I have always loved fictional bad boys. I am kind of weird that way. But I seriously like him. And Crown Prince Cal- even though I am not so fan of good boys but seriously going after your brother's betrothed even though you knew he was falling for her. Shame on you. But that said, I too liked you as a character. And the Dance scene. My. My. *fanning myself with a imaginary folding fan.* Before Maven turned out to be evil I wasn't really rooting out for you guys but we'll see whats happens in book two.And Queen Elara, this bitch seriously need to die a horrible death. You will know why. Can't tell you or it will be spoiler then it won't be much of suspense filled read. Enough said.
People. PEOPLE. You seriously need to pick this one up and read it. It is fun. People who like to read fantasy, especially about Princes and Princess and Kings and Queens. And revolutions. With magical powers. THIS IS YOUR BOOK.
