Summary:

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

"Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love."

My thoughts/What I think?

2 stars.

It was not what I was expecting. It was boring. I tried so hard to reel into the story.

I may be the only being in this universe who didn't love this book.

I am all for the fairy tale retellings but I don't know what went wrong with this. I don't even know why picked it up. The cover design was just so enticing and the blurb felt pretty good. And it is a 'Beauty and The Beast' fairy retelling with a greek mythological backdrop with demons. It was the perfect recipe. I don't know what went wrong.
Maybe I cringed a little when Nyx's-the Mc-husband aka the evil ruler is god's knows how many centuries old and already had married and widower of seven or eight wives. Or for that matter you don't kiss a shadow you just met a few hours ago. Hell I like a cruel little main character who is ready to go all demonic but c'mon something seriously went wrong in this.
The Plus-the writing was beautiful and the only reason I gave it two stars.
The whole or most of the book was based on Nyx to be stuck in a house with no way of going out. I am a little claustrophobic so reading the book made me feel so. So I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
Maybe I will have to read to again or maybe not. I was not at all satisfied by the story. I am generally a person who literally lives off Fantasy genre. Like I don't even need food give me a bunch of fantasy genre books and I am all set. And that is saying something because I just found out my first book of fantasy genre which I don't like at all.
