Summary:
"Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.
People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.
Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?
Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting."
My thoughts/What I think?
I do not have words. Let me be clear not because I am speechless or anything but because I was expecting this to be amazing, fantastic read but what do I get? I get a story that is so damn confusing, a protagonist who was getting on my nerve. And the old cliche- girl pretending to be a boy. The name suggests Necromancer, so a reader would expect lots of dead rising, nothing happens. She calls on the dead hardly three times throughout the whole book. THREE TIMES. I am frustrated. My blood is boiling. And don't even get me started on her love interest. The Dude kidnapped you, and the only thing you could think about is how hard his muscles are and how delicious he looks. Talk about Lust for a man she supposedly hates. At least she admits it's not love. Not yet that is.
The whole plot is something like this-
Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway, a eighteen year girl, first called on the dead when her mother lay dying on her death bed due to some long term illness. When her father saw what she did and could do, he threw her out on the streets. So how is a girl going to fend for herself on the Victorian streets of London. You start pretending you are a boy. She does this for 5 years. But past get caught up to her. People are looking for her, and when she escapes from the police station she creates quite the scandal raising the dead for escaping. After that, she is kidnapped by Lincoln Fitzroy who is the head of a secret organization-The ministry of Curiosities- on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. So after the incident they start thinking there are two necromancers, a girl who disappeared five years ago and now a boy who appeared five years ago. They couldn't connect the dots that the boy they captured is actually the girl they were looking in the first place. So they lock her up in a tower, stuff happens, blah blah blah.
This story confused the hell out of me. I mean who is the real villain? Was I suppose to hate Frankenstein but I didn't.
I didn't like the love interest one bit. He was a little too silent and angry all the time. I can't really say anything else. There are so many things left unanswered. I want to know the answers. And I am hoping that I get them from the second book.
